Katrina Hodge is not just another pretty face who won the title of Miss England 2009. The 22-year-old beauty is also a British soldier, something of which is uncommonly heard of, at least for many. Katrina Hodge is changing the face of beauty and is bringing a new kind of armor to the pageant runway battlefield.

Katrina Hodge – not the typical beauty queen

According to Britain’s Telegraph, there will not be a swimwear competition for this year’s Miss England. Although Katrina Hodge looks utterly amazing in a swimsuit, she feels the swimsuit competition is not always fair to those competing for the title. “I think it’s nerve-racking enough for girls to get up on a stage and speak, let alone appear in a swimsuit,” Hodge told the Telegraph. “It’s good the girls are being given a sports challenge in this year’s competition.”

They call her the “Combat Barbie”

At first look at Katrina Hodge, you probably would never have guessed she’s a hard-hitting soldier. No battle wounds, scars or even a scratch visible – just a crowned beautiful woman, soft and peaceful with grace. However, don’t let this pretty face fool you.

Katrina Hodge was only 16-years old when she left school and joined the army. At age 18, she became one of the only ten women chosen in the Royal Anglians to serve in Iraq for seven months. According to the Telegraph post, there she was given a commendation for disarming and detaining a suspected rebel fighter – with her bare hand! Now tell me, does that sound like a typical beauty queen’s doing? Certainly not! Katrina Hodge definitely puts a fine meaning to the name given to her by her comrades: Combat Barbie.

Beautifully convincing

Not only is she beautiful and tough, but she appears to be quite convincing, as well. Katrina Hodge has convinced Angie Beasley, Miss England national organizer, to put some changes into motion. “Every year the girls take part in the various rounds of Miss England – we have a talent, charity, eco and now the sports round, which will replace the swimwear in the competition,” she said. I have a pretty strong feeling we are going to hear more of combat barbies from this day forth.

Actor Corey Haim dead at 38 – possible drug overdose

Posted by admin On March - 10 - 2010

Former child star Corey Haim is dead, according to a recent post published today on Personal Money Store, as well as several other news sources. 38-year-old Corey Haim was found unconscious in an Oakwood Apartment near Burbank, California. The former teen idol was pronounced dead at 2:15 a.m. Wednesday at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank. Although the cause of his death has not yet been determined, police believe he may have died from a possible drug overdose.

Looking back on the days of Corey Haim

Corey Haim was raised Jewish, and was born in Toronto, Ontario. While still a young child, his mother enrolled him in acting lessons in order for him to overcome his shyness. It was not until 1986 when Haim had his big break in acting. He played the role of Lucas Bly in the popular movie “Lucas”; the movie also starred Winona Ryder, Charlie Sheen, and Kerri Green. He also appeared in movies like “License to Drive”, “The Goonies” and “The Lost Boys”, to name a few.

Corey Haim had drug problems

Haim had struggled with drug addiction throughout his acting career. In the early 2000s, he made known to the public that he was struggling with an addiction with prescription medication. “I started on the downers which were a hell of a lot better than the uppers because I was a nervous wreck. But one led to two, two led to four, four led to eight, until at the end it was about 85 a day — the doctors could not believe I was taking that much. And that was just the Valium — I’m not talking about the other pills I went through.” Valium is a drug used to reduce tension and anxiety. Similar to recently deceased movie actress Brittany Murphy, Corey Haim was suffering from “flu-like symptoms,” and both were using over-the-counter and prescription medication.
